Stay Cool This Summer

With temperatures rising this week, homes can quickly become stuffy and uncomfortable. To help you beat the heat, we’ve gathered some practical tips to keep both your home and yourself cooler this summer.

Keeping Your Home Cool

Try these simple tips to keep indoor temperatures down:

  • Block out the sun by closing blinds or curtains during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Use fans to circulate air and create a cooling breeze throughout your home.
  • Cover leather furniture with lightweight throws for a more comfortable seating experience.
  • Switch on extractor fans (like in the kitchen or bathroom) to help remove warm air—just leave doors open so air can flow properly.

Keeping Yourself Cool

Here are some helpful ways to lower your body temperature and stay refreshed:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water—add ice or freeze water bottles for an extra cooling effect. Limit alcohol, which can dehydrate you.
  • Replenish electrolytes with drinks that help you rehydrate faster such as coconut water, fruit smoothies and milk.
  • Eat light and fresh meals like fruit, salads, and other hydrating foods.
  • Dress appropriately in loose-fitting, breathable fabrics like cotton to help your body stay cool.
  • Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat and applying sunscreen if you’re heading out.
  • Switch to a lightweight duvet to sleep more comfortably at night.
  • Take cool showers or baths to bring your body temperature down.
  • Avoid peak heat hours by planning activities early in the morning or later in the evening.
  • Seek shade and take breaks indoors regularly to prevent overheating or heatstroke.
  • Keep a chilled spray bottle of water in the fridge to mist yourself when needed.

And finally, while opening windows and doors is great for letting in a cool breeze, but always remember to shut and lock them before leaving your home for safety.
